A wine that blew me away was the 2011 Torrin Law Vineyard, and it reminded me of a top Roussillon with its chocolaty dark fruit and massive minerality. A blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Grenache, it checks in at 16.1% alcohol, but you’d never know it by tasting it. Full-bodied, layered, and decadent, with off-the-charts purity and focus, it has a full-bodied, voluptuous style on the palate that conceals solid underlying tannic structure. Black raspberry, cassis, dark chocolate, crushed rock, flowers and licorice all emerge from the glass, and this is about as sexy and hedonistic as you can get in the vintage. Drink this rock star effort over the coming 7-8 years.
