Nestled in the Mayacamas Mountains between St. Helena and Santa Rosa, the picturesque 235 acre estate of Pride Mountain Vineyards produces unique wines in contrast to those made in the neighboring valleys. The vineyards are set above the fog line, which enables the grapes to be exposed to California's hot sun from dawn to dusk. As a result, the flavors of these wines tend to be rich with ripe black fruits, "balance, nuance, and complexity." They are made to be approachable at a young age with the capability to age beneficially for 10-15 years. Cheers to Pride Mountain wines!
The Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, presented in a 1.5L magnum, is crafted from grapes grown at approximately 2,100 ft elevation on Spring Mountain, straddling Napa and Sonoma. This low-yield vintage, affected by frost, has matured in French oak, enhancing its complexity. The wine showcases rich flavors of blackberry jam, cassis, and chocolate, complemented by smooth, round tannins and good acidity. Its profile includes notes of cedar, licorice, and a hint of earthiness, delivering a balanced and focused experience. The 2008 vintage is designed for both immediate enjoyment and potential aging, although the gentler pressing method introduced a softer texture in the wine. This Cabernet blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot.
