Chateau Lynch-Bages is a famous Medoc estate, west of Pauillac, located in Bages, known for crafting enormous, ageable reds. The wine is a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend, with of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Dejean family developed and sold the vineyard in 1728 to Pierre Drouillard who then left it to his daughter and her husband, Thomas Lynch. Their 200+ acres are planted on a ridge of well-drained soil made up of gravel beds over limestone. Lynch-Bages is one of the most celebrated, cherished and renowned wines if the world and certainly outshine their Fifth Growth 1855 classification.
Château Lynch-Bages 1996, a distinguished red Bordeaux blend from Pauillac, exemplifies the classic characteristics of the Left Bank with a composition of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine is noted for its deep plum color and complex aromas of cedar, tobacco, and black currant, complemented by hints of graphite and herbal notes. On the palate, it showcases a medium to full body with a rich texture and a spicy finish, highlighting blackberry and currant flavors. With its long-lived potential and elegant structure, this vintage is celebrated for its purity and depth, reflecting the estate's gravelly terroir and the skillful aging in French oak.
