Château Haut-Brion
Château Haut-Brion was the first estate in Bordeaux to be known by its place and name in the 17th century. This revolutionary Château was also the first to craft “New French Claret” which the current red Bordeaux standard is now based on. Haut-Brion seamlessly combines ideal terroir, devoted ownership and effective use of technology. This is the only First Growth located in Pessac-Leognan and remains the benchmark of quality throughout the region. 120 acres are devoted to reds producing 10,000 to 12,000 cases and less than 10 acres are allocated to whites for a smaller range of 650 to 850 cases. Optimum rootstock and clones are used, harvest is done by hand, and the wines are internationally celebrated for balance, complexity, cigar-box, currant fruit and cassis. Château Haut-Brion 1985 is a distinguished First Growth from Graves, recognized for its elegance and complexity. This vintage showcases a harmonious blend of dark berry fruits, smoke, and herbal notes, with a silky texture and outstanding minerality. It features a deep ruby/garnet color, revealing aromas of cedar, tobacco, and spices, complemented by a palate of ripe cherries and plums. The wine is finely structured and fully mature, reflecting the unique character of its terroir. This vintage is noted for its balance and finesse, making it an exquisite choice for connoisseurs. The blend is predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

- Supple, harmonious, cascading with beautifully balanced fruit, spice and earthy tobacco notes. Not a powerhouse, but very fine and delicious to drink now.
- WA95
- A gloriously seductive, classic Haut-Brion showing the most savory side of this elegant, finesse-styled wine, the 1985 Haut-Brion has reached its plateau of full maturity. The color is a deep ruby/garnet with some lightening at the edge. A very complex nose of cedar, dried herbs, smoke, creosote, and black cherries, plums, and currants jumps from the glass. In the mouth, it is round, concentrated, medium to full-bodied, with a velvety texture and beautifully integrated alcohol, acidity, and tannin. A beauty! Anticipated maturity: Now-2012.
