The dense purple-hued 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Giovanni’s Tuscan Reserve is another winner from David Del Dotto. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Sangiovese, it represents a Napa rendition of a Super Tuscan. A top-flight effort, it reveals lots of new saddle leather, licorice, blackcurrants, cherries and spice box characteristics in its complex aromatics, a full-bodied, silky textured, opulent mouthfeel, and a voluptuous finish. A staggering wine from both a hedonistic and intellectual perspective, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.
