Representing a 12 barrel – i.e. by Laurent`s standards enormous! – blend from Poulaillieres; a bit of Les Treux; plus two barrels of declassified Grands-Echezeaux, his 2006 Echezeaux Vieilles Vignes is another cuvee he says reflects vines formerly owned or propagated by the Jayer family. Ripe but tart strawberry, red raspberry, and cherry dominate the proceedings – along with suggestions of raw meat; forest floor decadence; chalky, alkaline minerality; and oriental spices. The fruit here creamily coats the palate while displaying striking brightness and lift, and the mineral and meat dimensions cling with sinister tenacity to the fruit in a long finish. This harbors enormous potential and deserves to be followed for at least a dozen years.
