The Winery

Tua Rita

In 1984, Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisiti, purchased around 40 acres of land in Tuscany and planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. By 1992 the winery released its first vintage and began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. It Merlot quickly received cult status so much that the 2000 vintage went on to receive a 100 point score by acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker. The silty, clay and mineral-rich soils in Suvereto are reflected in the wines themselves, which are known for showcasing hints of saltiness and unique iron qualities. Along with their highly-praised Merlot, Redigaffi, Tue Rita releases an equally impressive Bordeaux Blend wine called Giustro di Notri, a varietal Syrah called Per Sempre and a varietal Sangiovese called Perlato del Bosco. Because most of the wines are so unique and highly-regarded, it is no surprise that Tua Rita wines are some of the most difficult to find in all of Italy.

Tasting Notes

WA98
The 2013 Giusto di Notri is a proud, proud, proud achievement. This is an enormously profound red wine that raises a noble and majestic banner that flies high above the enological coast of Tuscany. The blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller components of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Merlot currently clocks in at 10% and that quota has been reduced compared to past vintages. The wine is aged in equal parts new and neutral oak. This is a gorgeous wine that surprises most of all thanks to the unexpected nature of its fine and delicate floral aromas. Yes, there's plenty of black fruit and spice at its core. That's par for the course when it comes to a wine of this important extraction, intensity and power. But that flirtatious, perfumed hint of blue flower and rose bud is its most memorable feature in my opinion. This is a very special wine.

Red and black fruit flavors buzz with notes of clove and black peppercorns, the texture lush and layered with flavors of dark chocolate and fresh tobacco. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 30 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Franc, it aged 18 months in new and used French oak barriques, lending notes of vanilla and sweet spice. The tannins feel cool and ferrous, providing a firm footing for the dense fruit flavors. This offers plenty of verve and richness to match a dry-aged steak, yet will reward further cellaring.
