The 2000 Barolo Riserva Campe, from a newly acquired vineyard in Grinzane Cavour, is very 2000 in its open, accessible personality, although it does not possess what could be called much complexity or depth. It is a medium-bodied, supple effort with plenty of attractive ripe fruit, excellent length, and an open, inviting personality. Interestingly, it comes across as much more delicate and floral than the non-Riserva Barolo of the same vintage, which has always been a more muscular wine. Still fresh and vibrant, it promises to drink well for another decade. In 2000, Rivetti did not have control of the vineyard for the entire growing season and this is a very promising debut for a wine from a zone that has previously never produced an important Barolo. As delicious as this wine is, its price tag is simply egregious. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016.
