The 1978 Boal was aged in oak casks until bottling in February 2011. Compared directly against the Terrantez, the Boal does not quite have the same degree of complexity and harmony. It politely requests time to “tuck in its shirt” and “straighten its tie”. After several hours it offers scents of smoked walnut, a touch of peat, marmalade and furniture polish. The palate is very harmonious and seems to have more composure and refinement than the aromatics: cracked black pepper on the entry that reluctantly gives way to honey, bitter orange, marjoram and Clementine. It is not a heavyweight Boal, erring more towards Terrantez in terms of perceived sweetness, although it is graceful and elegant from start to finish.
