The Winery

Hundred Acre

“From meticulous harvesting berry by berry rather than grape bunch by grape bunch, to an obsessive/compulsive barrel regime as well as winemaking, Hundred Acre is the Napa outpost of visionary and a genius”
– Jayson Woodbridge

Jayson Woodbridge was a successful investment banker in Canada and had an epiphany when he walked through a vineyard in Okanagan. He knew that he wanted to have his own vineyard and to create award-winning wine.

Since his debut in 2000, his 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has been living up to his motto of “stand amongst the very best or not at all’. Everything handcrafted, hand pruned, scrutinized and aligned for his desired response, near critical perfection and some of the finest wine known to man. His wines are terrific examples of Napa Cabernet and have made their way to cult status, so getting your hands on them can be difficult.

Tasting Notes

WA98
One of his more experimental wines is called Deep Time. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Deep Time spent 46 months in cask. There are only probably two winemakers I know who are pushing long cask-aging this far: Manfred Krankl with some of his long, barrique-aged Rhône Ranger wines and Justin Smith doing the same thing farther north at Saxum. Forty-six months may be the longest time I have known a Cabernet Sauvignon to spend in oak, but like so many things with Jayson Woodbridge, although it may seem irrational, when you taste the results it all adds up. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Deep Time shows no evidence of oak, which I know may be hard to believe, but go ahead, find a bottle and taste it. It is a layered, powerful, seamless Cabernet Sauvignon with loads of graphite, forest floor, cedar wood, crème de cassis and blackberry. The wine is dense and full-bodied. No one would ever guess by its youthfulness and energetic personality that this wine had spent this much time in cask. Look for it to continue to drink well from its release forward, easily 25 or more years.
