Incorporating more Tannat than normal, the 2011 Tsundere is comprised of 35% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Tannat and the balance Grenache. Aged 18 months in 65% new French oak, it’s the most structured and tannic in the lineup, and will need 2-4 years to round into form. It shows the Cabernet on the nose, with textbook cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings and hints of tobacco leaf all emerging from the glass. This is followed by a full-bodied, seamless, yet beautifully concentrated wine that has solid density, a great texture and building, savory tannin. There are less than 200 cases of this, but it’s a great wine and will have 15+ years of longevity.
