The strongest effort I believe I have ever tasted from Hewitt, this wine exhibits an opaque purple color and a beautiful nose of charcoal, graphite, licorice, blackcurrants, blackberries and a touch of espresso. It is deep, full-bodied, nicely disguises its oak treatment, and hits the palate with a crescendo of rich, perfectly ripe fruit, decent acidity and well-integrated tannin, oak and alcohol. It is a big boy at 15.3%, but that’s also well-disguised. This wine should drink well for 20-25 years.
