The 2013 Maremma Toscana Rocca di Frassinello is a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot (aged in mostly new oak for two years). This is a stunning wine and is, without a doubt, one of the two best wines I have yet to taste from Rocca di Frassinello. The other is the 100% Baffonero Merlot. What distinguishes this wine is the seamless nature of its intensity and its integration. There are absolutely no rough transitions here and the wine wraps smoothly over the palate with firm determination. The dry extract is high (38 grams per liter) and all that heft and density leaves a lasting positive impression.

A full-bodied red with dried fruit and lots of berry and toasted oak character. Coffee, too. A full-bodied, ripe and drink-me style of red. Mostly sangiovese with the rest being merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.
