Bright medium ruby (the color came very quickly during the fermentation, noted Pam Starr). Complex, claret-like aromas of black cherry, licorice, mocha and sandalwood. Wonderfully silky and refined on the palate, if not quite as expressive as on the nose. Big, generous, extract-rich wine with a hedonistic texture but also good medicinal reserve to its black cherry, licorice and dark chocolate flavors; a rocky element contributes grip. Wonderfully suave, classically dry, dense-yet-weightless Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe, chocolatey tannins and terrific palate-saturating persistence. This should enjoy a slow and positive evolution in bottle. Starr described 2013 as "a unique vintage in which the plants responded very well to Mother Nature and didn`t need much from us." She went on: Everything hit at the right time. We had a good quick flowering and a relatively cool summer; it was a great year for the plants. We didn`t even have to drop much fruit at veraison, and the veraison happened very quickly. Then we had a long harvest period with a very slow uptake of sugars and no rush to pick."
