The Winery

Hundred Acre

“From meticulous harvesting berry by berry rather than grape bunch by grape bunch, to an obsessive/compulsive barrel regime as well as winemaking, Hundred Acre is the Napa outpost of visionary and a genius”
– Jayson Woodbridge

Jayson Woodbridge was a successful investment banker in Canada and had an epiphany when he walked through a vineyard in Okanagan. He knew that he wanted to have his own vineyard and to create award-winning wine.

Since his debut in 2000, his 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has been living up to his motto of “stand amongst the very best or not at all’. Everything handcrafted, hand pruned, scrutinized and aligned for his desired response, near critical perfection and some of the finest wine known to man. His wines are terrific examples of Napa Cabernet and have made their way to cult status, so getting your hands on them can be difficult.

Tasting Notes

WA96
Incense, graphite, acacia flower, blueberry, blackberry and subtle smoke aromas jump from the glass of this rich, full-bodied, dense wine. Opulent and deep, with good acidity and a youthful personality (it resembles a 2- to 3-year-old Cabernet rather than one approaching 7 years of age), this is a multilayered, complex, full-throttle effort that will benefit from another 5 years of cellaring and should keep for 25+ years.
V95
Saturated bright red-ruby. Medicinal black cherry, blackberry, cocoa powder, tobacco, menthol and minerals on the remarkably primary nose. Seriously powerful, superconcentrated wine with a tightly coiled spring and a magically light touch. The dark berry and mineral flavors are complicated by a saline element. Conveys an impression of excellent acidity, but Woodbridge notes that the pH here is around 4.0; still, this wine makes the 2004 seem truffley by comparison. Finishes with a suave dusting of tannins and outstanding length. This was made in oak fermenters at Woodbridge's new winery, then aged in his caves. I'd still give it several years in the cellar to resolve its acids and tannins. It may yet merit an even higher score. Rating: 95+
