Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent the last forty years perfecting its production of Merlot. Being one of the few wineries in Napa Valley that chose to perfect their Merlot rather than Cabernet Sauvignon has allowed them to focus on youthful drinkability, approachability, and smooth texture. With their estate vineyards taking over more than 400 hectares, the Merlot is considered to be one of the best in the state of California.
Tasting Notes
- WS94
- A bold, rich, massive expression of exuberant Cabernet, with layers of concentrated currant, blackberry, spice and wild berry flavors that offer a mix of power and finesse, easing up a bit on the finish, where the tannins are ripe and firm.
- WE92
- More tannic than Duckhorn’s Monitor Ledge, with more darkly skinned fruit flavors and chocolate. Perfectly balanced in flamboyant new oak and acids, rich and supple, long in the finish. Should hold and improve beyond 2010.
