Joseph Phelps has developed, over its long and successful history, into one of the most powerful wineries in the entire Napa Valley. This prestigious winery crafts three distinct Bordeaux- style blends including the flagship, Insignia, the exclusive wine club only Backus, and a Napa Valley Cabernet blend, among numerous other varietals. Their flagship wine, Insignia, is now recognized as one of the world’s great wines. Thirty-one of thirty-six vintages have been rated ninety or more points by various wine publications. The 2002 vintage was awarded “Wine of the Year” by Wine Spectator Magazine. The appearance, aroma and palate characteristics are most remarkable for their bold and vibrant expressions. Tasting Notes
- WA93–95+
- The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard (90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol. Only 1,700 cases were produced. Beautiful pure black raspberry and blueberry fruit along with hints of wet rocks and acacia flowers jump from the glass of this opaque purple-colored, full-bodied wine. It is more tightly knit and less exuberant and voluptuous than the 2012, but it is bursting with enormous potential, extract and concentration. Forget this 2013 for 5-6 years and drink it over the following three decades.

- So soft and fresh with sage, berry, dark chocolate and cocoa aromas and flavors. Full body, velvety texture and a long and rich finish. Luscious is the word to describe this. Retains tension.
