With a vision to create world famous wines in the heart of Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi began his quest in 1966 by choosing the To Kalon Vineyard as his first endeavor. He wanted to pioneer a renaissance in the Napa Valley with his passionate and meticulous approach to eventually compete with the wines of Bordeaux. Residing in Oakville, Mondavi wines have continued to carry the torch as a true Cabernet Sauvignon based estate garnering consistently high scores from world renowned critics.
Robert partnered with Baron Philippe Rothschild of Mouton Rothschild in 1979 to create a Bordeaux-style blend in Napa Valley. The goal was create an exquisite and beautiful wine at first-growth quality from the fertile soils of Oakville. Opus One made the leap becoming one of the most sought after reds in the New World by consistently meeting wine lovers ever-growing expectations of quality.

- This extraordinary wine is backward and unevolved, but even neophytes will recognize its potential greatness. The opaque, saturated, dark purple color reveals no sign of age. The huge, smoky, oaky, blackcurrant, herb, and vanillin-scented nose only hints at what will be achieved with further evolution. Sweet, decadently rich, dense, highly extracted flavors are wrapped around a full-bodied, chewy, super-concentrated, moderately tannic wine that, ideally, needs 7-8 more years of cellaring. It is a 25 to 30 year California Cabernet Sauvignon that is just beginning to become civilized. A potential legend in the making!

- Dark, ripe and intense, with a rich core of cedar, currant, anise and spice flavors, finishing with a firm tannic edge. Impressive for its detailed, integrated flavors and fine balance.
