The eastern exposures on Jerry Seps's Calistoga mountainside get the cooler morning sun, which matures fruit to the velvet richness of this wine, emphasizing blackberries rather than prunes. The tannins are warm and mineral, as if those fresh blackberries were roasting on hot rocks. It's a dense zin suited to boar ragù.
