Located most perfectly upon the alluvial fans that surround the Napa Valley, Rudd Wines thrives on its Oakville Estate.The ideal soils are made up of volcanic rock and loose stones that are the most desired for drainage. The vineyard is organically farmed, helping their wines more naturally achieve its greatest potential. Beneath the winery are tunnels upon tunnels of wine caves to age the wine in French oak barrels.The winery represents Oakville terroir at its finest with their care of the soils and production methods.

- The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Crossroads performed much better this year than it did last year. A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it is still unevolved with a primary character, but it does reveal attractive blueberry and cassis fruit interwoven with notions of incense, camphor, and licorice. As the wine sits in the glass, a graphite scent also emerges. Full-bodied with ripe tannin, but only hinting at its ultimate potential, this 2007 should be forgotten for 5-6 years, and enjoyed over the following 20-25 years. Rating: 95+
