Domaine Jamet

Domaine Jamet is a reference point for classically styled Côte-Rôtie. Founded in 1950 by Joseph Jamet with just barely one acre of vineyards, the property initially sold their crop to negociants. The Jamet brothers, Jean-Paul and Jean-Luc, took over from their father in 1991 and eventually expanded the domaine to 8 hectares.

The domaine of Jamet is located in Le Vallin, not far from the hilltop just behind Ampuis. The altitude and nature of the soil types in the 25 plots spread across 17 lieux-dits has the biggest influence of character on the wines. Every year the fruit is carefully selected from these sites to craft a highly nuanced wine of perfume, silky texture, and age worthy finesse. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and the wines are aged in barrel for 18-22 months. No fining or filtering occurs.

Today, Jean-Paul his wife, Corinne, run the domaine and have made improvements to the estate by instigating soil studies and installing gravity-fed systems into their winery. While Jean-Luc left the family domaine, it is certain that the excellence of Jamet will not change.

Tasting Notes

JS97
This has fine and spicy crushed-stone aromas with plenty of bright fragrances such as intense florals and dark-chocolate character. The wine is in a good place — it's nice and open with tannins that run even and supple. Really smooth and fresh red-plum and cherry fruits sit alongside blue fruits enveloped by fine tannins. The wine is so silky, velvety and complete. Definitive Côte Rôtie that should be left alone until after 2018, by which time it should have a long window of 15+ years' great drinking.
WA96
Tasted from bottle, the 2012 Côte Rôtie is a rock star that’s hard to resist now, even though it won’t hit maturity for another decade. Olive, pepper, underbrush and sweet cassis-like aromas and flavors all flow from this medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textured 2012. Showing both the gamy, wild and perfumed style of Côte Rôtie, yet also fantastic purity, it has the approachable, rounded feel on the vintage and can be consumed anytime over the coming 15+ years.
