V94–96

A deep, dense wine, the 2013 Pinot Noir Skyline Vineyard wraps around the palate with gorgeous fleshiness and pure resonance. Crushed flowers, cinnamon, cloves and new leather all blossom in the glass. Today, the 2013 conveys an impression of real gravitas and depth on its dark red and purplish-toned fruit. Over the last few months the Skyline has begun to shut down quite a bit, which makes it hard to fully appreciate now, but is a very good sign for the future. Readers will have to be patient, though. The 2013 is clearly built for the cellar. This is another wine where the 100% whole clusters are barely noticeable, if at all. Re-tasted: October 2014. Range: 94-96

Made with 100% whole clusters in 2012, the 2012 Pinot Noir Skyline Vineyard offers lots of raspberry and kirsch-like nuances intermixed with plenty of mulled spices, dried flowers and crushed rock-like minerality. On the palate it's supple, medium to full-bodied and gorgeously textured, with integrated acidity, a solid core of sweet fruit through the mid-palate, and outstanding length on the finish. Already approachable, this elegant, seamless Pinot Noir will still benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years of overall longevity.
