Domaine G. Roumier

"We don’t make Pinot Noir; we make wines from terroir which expresses itself through Pinot Noir."
- Christophe Roumier

Seductive, sophisticated, synchronized and sought-after. These are the words that come up over and over, critic to critic, enthusiast to enthusiast, in the discussion of Domaine Georges Roumier. It is celebrated as one of the premier estates of Cote d’Or, producing wines from Chambolle Musigny, “Les Amoureuses”, Bonnes Mares, Clos Vougeot, Musigny and Morey St. Denis. The juice is sensual and even in the most difficult of vintages, always over-delivers, which speaks to the fruit and to the fine winemaking led by Christophe Roumier. Stylistically, the wines are truly vehicles for the terroir to the palate. They are bright, concentrated, and elegant with just enough fruit.

"At this point, one could easily submit that this Domaine is one of the dozen strongest estates in Burgundy today. It just doesn't seem to miss, as is evident by the superb 1982's and 1986's, light vintages where even some of the most renowned properties stubbed a toe. Roumier, instead issued some of its prettiest wines from those vintages, especially in '86."
- Matt Kramer, Making Sense of Burgundy

Tasting Notes

WE95
From its dense color and its thick aromas of smoked meats and hedgerow fruits to its dense, rich and concentrated fruit, this is a superlative wine. The solid fruit and hugely extracted tannins give it great weight. This could age for at least 20 years, and certainly won't be ready to drink before 10. Cellar Selection
WA91
The star at chez Roumier in the 2000 vintage is Christophe’s Bonnes Mares. Its beguiling aromas of spiced sweet cherries lead to a medium-bodied, silky-textured character crammed with cherries, currants, and candied raspberries. Lush, generous, and pure, it is deep, concentrated, and possesses a long, expressive finish. Projected maturity: 2004-2011.
