When Gavin Newsom first moved to San Francisco he opened a wine store called PlumpJack, and filled the store with wines he loved. The name Plumpjack is inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most unforgettable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff; a jolly, plump and proud knight that spent most of his time drinking a The Boar’s Head Tavern. Newsom quickly discovered that he especially loved big juicy California cabernet, and was devoted to create his own winery with his pal Gordon Getty that was commitment to crafting wines of the highest quality, and celebrates the convivial spirit of its namesake. Situated on truly great terroir in central Napa Valley, they founded their winery on the premise that wine is one of life’s great pleasures and should be enjoyed as often as possible. Summary
The PlumpJack Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve 2007 is a distinguished red wine from California's Napa Valley, crafted from select estate fruit. This limited release reflects a benchmark vintage, showcasing a deep purple-black hue and a rich aromatic profile of crème de cassis, blueberry preserves, and spice cake. The palate is full-bodied and harmonious, featuring layers of black fruit complemented by notes of licorice, mocha, and a hint of cigar box. Its finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity contribute to a long, persistent finish, making it both approachable now and suitable for aging. The 1.5L magnum format enhances its maturation potential and collectability.

- The virtually perfect 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot) does indeed recall those great Villa Mt. Eden Cabernets of 1974 and 1978. An inky/purple hue is accompanied by a provocative aromatic display of blackberries, blueberries, cassis, spring flowers, and graphite. The wine’s extraordinary purity, unbelievable density of fruit, and full-bodied mouthfeel result in an awesome Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for three decades or more. This modern day legend is the finest wine to emerge from the Plumpjack winery. Bravo!

- Elegant and stylish, delivering a sleek core of ripe plum, black cherry and currant flavors shaded by black licorice and mocha notes. Full-bodied, focused and wonderfully balanced, ending with a long, pure finish that keeps repeating the polished fruit themes. Drink now through 2020.
