Leonetti Cellars

“For more than 30 years, my family has been producing wines of consistently high quality at Leonetti Cellars, driven by the vision of my parents and founders, Gary and Nancy Figgins. What started as a dream to make world class wines in Walla Walla, became a true success story. Now, my role is to continue to evolve that vision at Leonetti while leading the charge for the next generation of Walla Walla vintners in the same way my father inspired the generation before me. We are dedicated to growing, producing, and marketing wine and food of world class quality, sustainability, and pedigree. Our pursuit of excellence in viticulture and winemaking is uncompromising, which allows our brands to reflect the deep sense of place and connection to the land that inspires our family on a daily basis.”
-Chris Figgins, President & Winemaking Director at Leonetti Cellars

As Walla Walla Valley’s first commercial winery, Leonetti Cellars was established in 1977. Although their initial grape plantings were of Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling, they now produce a range of wines including Merlot and Sangiovese. Because of the high prices that the winery demands for their Bordeaux-inspired wines, Leonetti and its key vineyards have become one of the top-tier wineries in the up-and-coming region of Washington. The region’s silty loam soils are responsible for the wealth of variety that their terroir creates, especially on the different aspects and slopes that define the Walla Walla Valley.

Tasting Notes

WE97
The 76% Cabernet Sauvignon is melded with 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenère, and 3% Malbec, creating a stunningly dense, polished, tight wine. It’s light years away from the Leonetti’s of the 1980s—compact and loaded with black fruits, pepper, fresh herbs, rock, earth, toast and smoke. It’s so tight that it’s almost impossible to dissect. It needs time—a lot of…
WA94
The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) also contains 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenere, and 3% Malbec. It was aged for 22 months in a mix of new and used French oak. The nose displays herbs, olives, Asian spices, coffee/mocha, a hint of balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a savory, intense, incipiently complex Cabernet that will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring to show its full potential. It will be in its prime from 2015 to 2027.
