Since 1961, Bruno Giacosa has been producing some of the most sought after wines out of Piedmont. His list of eminent wines is long and strong, and stronger yet is his commitment to quality. Should a vintage be deemed unfit after his scrupulous review, it will be sold as bulk and under no circumstances be sold under the Giacosa label. When a vintage is superb, the “Riserva” is released. Vintages to look out for in particular: 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004.
Tasting Notes

- Things kicked up several notches with a flight of Barbareschis from the famed Asili vineyard. Asili is in the village of Barbaresco, where the wines are generally more feminine than in Neive. The best wines from this site have great aromatics and fine, silky tannins. The 1996 Barbaresco Asili Riserva was an infant, but its potential impossible to miss. Sweet, expressive aromatics and beautifully layered fruit lingered on the eternal finish.

- The 1996 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is a total pleasure bomb. Time has softened the tannins nicely. What comes through is an extraordinarily beautiful expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s top sites. At nearly twenty years of age, the 1996 is fresh, nuanced and captivating in every way.
