Robin Daniel Lail’s heritage began in 1879 with the founding of Inglenook Vineyards by her great–granduncle, the iconic Captain Gustave Niebaum. By the early 1890s, this brilliant man’s obsession for achieving the pinnacle of excellence earned Inglenook wines the status of being considered by many as the finest produced in the country. The determination to achieve excellence was carried forward through the decades following Niebaum’s death in 1908, with a crescendo in the thirty years following the repeal of Prohibition under the meticulous, passionate stewardship of John Daniel, Jr., Robin’s father. The collection of Cabernets coming from his years of ownership is still celebrated today as some of the finest red wines on earth. Although Inglenook was sold in 1964, the passion for winemaking did not fade. Robin inherited her father’s respect for tradition. Today her family honors his legacy with their relentless pursuit to produce wines second to none.
Summary
The Lail Vineyards J. Daniel Cuvée 2007 is a distinguished Napa Valley proprietary red, predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for approximately 20 months in new French oak, this wine showcases a deep purple hue with a complex bouquet of graphite, black cherry liqueur, and vibrant floral notes. The palate reveals an opulent, full-bodied character marked by ripe black fruits, spice, and a saline minerality that provides excellent structure. With a firm backbone of tannins and impressive length, this wine epitomizes the quality of the 2007 vintage and is crafted from select vineyards such as Vine Hill Ranch and Howell Mountain. The blend is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 75% new oak influence.

- Lail’s flagship wine is the J. Daniel Cuvee. The 2007 is living up to all of its promise when tasted last year from barrel. There are 850 cases of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from four separate sites in Napa (in Calistoga, Howell Mountain, Coombsville, and Rutherford). A dense purple color is accompanied by notes of graphite, licorice, black cherry liqueur, black currants, crushed rocks, spice box, and cedar. With Pauillac-like aromatic and flavor profiles, this opulent, full-bodied, rich 2007 reveals superb purity as well as definition. It may even grow in stature over the next five years, and is capable of lasting 20-25+ years. 96+
