Paolo Scavino is an estate in Barolo known for its polished, elegant red wines from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The estate owns 57 acres entirely within Barolo with parcels in 19 different cru vineyards in several different communes. The range of seven Barolo wines is led by the Bric Dël Fiasc (from the Fiasco cru in Castiglione Falletto), the Cannubi and the Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata which is aged for an additional year both in large casks and in bottle, and is sourced from a cru vineyard in La Morra.

- Scavino’s 2005 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata is another gem from one of the best-performing vineyards in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and menthol all come together with stunning definition and purity in this refined, aristocratic Barolo. An eternal finish rounds out this superb Barolo, which is one of my early favorites in 2005. The wine won’t be released until 2011 so there is still some time for it to come together, but it is already pretty special. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.

- This will arrive on the market in 2011. This is a powerful wine with chewy tannins. Perhaps slightly angular. Full bodied and velvety on the palate, but a bit mouth puckering on the finish.
