(from 40+ year old vines planted in shallow, high clay content soil sitting on a bed of solid rock) The most elegant wine of the range with a floral and airy nose of extract of red pinot fruit and wet stone that can also be found on the silky and round middle weight flavors that are balanced, refined and strikingly persistent. Like all of the Lafon '07s, the tannins here are quite fine and this should mature over the next decade but last for years. I quite like this and while it's lovely, it's not necessarily more interesting than the Champans, which is rare chez Lafon.

Intense aromas and flavors of cassis and creme de mure are complemented by mace and espresso in a Lafon 2007 Volnay Santenots du Milieu whose almost liqueur-like sense of richness carries through to a strong finish, while not precluding a sense of fresh fruit vivacity that is reinforced by pungent brown spices. This fine representative of its vintage and site should be worth cellaring for 5-7 years.
