The 2009 Mixed Blacks, a field blend of Rhone varieties grown on a parcel in St. Helena, is a throwback to a time when these wines were the norm rather than the exception. Black cherries, flowers, new leather, spices, tobacco and savory herbs are some of the many notes that flow from this deep, dark wine. Despite its richness, the wine possesses stunning balance, with plenty of minerality and perfume to complement the overtness of the fruit. There is no shortage of personality and sheer class here. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
