In 2010 Chateau l’If was purchased by Jean Thienpont, owner of Le Pin in Pomerol. The site contains 8 hectares within St. Emilion, made up of 70% Merlot and 30% of Cabernet Franc, having ripped out the remaining 1% of Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils within this site are made up of chalky limestone paired with clay. Under their new ownership, Chateau l’If has transformed into a desirable Right Bank producer, while sticking to classical winemaking techniques. The vineyards have been replanted to create a more dense row spacing and a higher concentration of intensity within the wine. These wines flourish with age and continue to impress their audiences.
