Since 1961, Bruno Giacosa has been producing some of the most sought after wines out of Piedmont. His list of eminent wines is long and strong, and stronger yet is his commitment to quality. Should a vintage be deemed unfit after his scrupulous review, it will be sold as bulk and under no circumstances be sold under the Giacosa label. When a vintage is superb, the “Riserva” is released. Vintages to look out for in particular: 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004.

- The 2005 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto is a massive, towering Barolo loaded with tons of rich, primary fruit. The wine remains powerful, dense and muscular with superb length even if it is a smaller-scaled Barolo compared to previous great vintages. That said, when I came back to the wine after it had been in the glass for an hour or so, I found that the wine had grown remarkably. While the 2005 doesn't have the explosive personality of the 2004, it remains an awesome achievement in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. Rating: 96+
- WS95
- Displays pure strawberry and raspberry, with notes of rose. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a persistent finish. A wine with grace, finesse and wonderful depth.
