The Winery

Seavey

“Conn Valley is still somewhat of a no man’s land of Napa Valley, hidden away to the east of the renowned resort of Meadowood, but there’s no question that the Seaveys, backed up by brilliant French winemaker Phillipe Melka, are turning out fabulously rich, long-lived Cabernet Sauvignons that could withstand 20-30 years of cellaring.”-Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Nestled in the heart of St. Helena, Seavey Vineyard is one of the most traditional wineries focusing on historic winemaking techniques rather than modern trends. William and Mary Seavey purchased the historic estate of Seavey Vineyard in 1979 which was originally founded by the Franco-Swiss Farming Company in 1881. They began making wines from vines that were planted almost a century before knowing that the land was groomed to grow world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, along with high-quality Petit Verdot and Chardonnay.

Today, under the management of their children, the estate runs with the same devoted values even maintaining an inventory of every vintage of their Cabernet Sauvignon in their Seavey Vineyard Wine Library. With earthy and rustic aromatics, the wines from Seavey are effortless, timeless, and wonderful collectibles for all.

Tasting Notes

WA95
One of the strongest wines of the vintage, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a worthy rival to Seavey’s gorgeous 2007. A blend of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9.5% Petit Verdot, it was cropped very low and, sadly, the production is a tiny 475 cases (30-40% less than normal). The wine’s dense opaque purple color is followed by notes of volcanic ash, burning embers, camphor, blackberries, cassis and cedar. The wine reveals terrific fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mid-palate and a multilayered textural mouthfeel. Dense, rich and pure with noticeable but sweet tannins, this big, formidably endowed Cabernet Sauvignon will age gracefully for 20-25 years.
WS94
A classy effort, firm and focused on spicy, loamy earth and dusty currant flavors. Holds and gains depth, ending with crushed rock, green olive and cedary cigar box notes. Fine-grained tannins.
