Château Troplong Mondot finds its home in Saint-Émilion, and its colorful history dates back to the 17th century when it was founded by the Sèze family. The estate has changed ownership multiple times over the generations, but under the current ownership there has been a push to embrace contemporary winemaking techniques. 1989 marked the first great vintage of the modern era and they haven’t looked back since. The revamping and reconstruction was completed in 2008. The Troplong Mondot team has learned to embrace their unique, cool, last to harvest terroir to produce rich, dark and sumptuous wines.
Summary
The Troplong Mondot 1994 is a distinguished red Bordeaux blend from Saint-Émilion, crafted during the era of Christine Valette. This wine showcases a striking dark hue and is characterized by a bouquet of mineral, berry, and spice aromas. With a core of black cherry, licorice, and earthy notes, it presents a full-bodied structure supported by ripe, fine tannins. The palate reveals complexity with hints of tapenade, mocha, and cedar, balanced by a touch of sweetness. Its concentration and length are notable, making it a standout for the vintage. While it is currently mature, it retains a firm backbone and can further develop with time. The blend predominantly features Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine underwent significant oak aging, enhancing its depth.

- WA90
- A beautiful wine, with notes of tapenade, licorice, spice box, black currants, and toasty oak, this medium-bodied wine has shed a lot of its tannin and exhibits excellent purity, a real sweetness on the attack, a bit of firmness on the back end, but impressive concentration and length.
- WS92
- Best Troplong ever. Impressive dark color and loads of mineral, berry and spice aromas lead to a full-bodied and very tannic (though the tannins are fine) mouthful. Very closed and tight now, this needs time to come around.
