Shipping Your Wine

Benchmark Wine Group is committed to protecting the integrity of every bottle that we sell. Wine can become damaged if exposed to extreme temperatures while in transit, so we work closely with each client to assure every bottle arrives at its destination in optimum condition.

Safe Delivery

Matching the appropriate delivery service with current weather conditions is the best way to assure that your wine will arrive in perfect condition. Benchmark offers a variety of delivery options to assure safe delivery, which are listed below. Benchmark gives all of our customers the option to store purchases in our temperature controlled cellar for up to 30 days while waiting for an extreme weather event to pass, or to build a case for economical shipping. If a customer would prefer Benchmark to hold their orders for longer than 30 days after purchase when safe shipping is possible, Benchmark will charge $14 per case, per month for providing this service.

If you would like Benchmark to hold your order for up to 30 days before shipping or until the next seasonally moderate shipping window, please click "Hold At Warehouse" when checking-out. Our system will send you an email when your order is near the 30 day holding limit, to notify you of pending shipment.


Express Shipping

Benchmark always recommends the use of express shipping to ensure that your wines arrive in perfect condition. This is especially true when temperatures above eighty degrees or below thirty-five degrees are expected at any point on the transit route.

Golden State Overnight

Customers in California may choose to have their wine shipped via GLS which offers 24 hour* delivery service at very low cost versus nationwide couriers. This service is also offered in some zip codes in Arizona and Nevada. Please note GLS Priority Overnight delivers within 2 days for zip codes outside in California. If GLS delivers to your shipping zip code, you will be given the option when checking out. *Speed of delivery is subject to change based on GLS's current package volume and delivery zip code, contact our customer service team to receive a personalized estimated delivery date.


Temperature Controlled Ground Shipping

We offer a Temperature Controlled Ground option year-round. This shipping service ships out once a week every Wednesday and delivers the following Thursday – Friday via UPS or FedEx* When using this service, your wines will be transported in a refrigerated environment to a major distribution hub near you, ensuring that your wines arrive in perfect condition in any weather. *Speed of delivery is subject to change based on the carriers current package volume and delivery zip code, contact our customer service team to receive a personalized estimated delivery date.

Expedited Shipping

Due to the complexities involved when shipping wine, Benchmark does not automatically ship a new order without consulting the customer first. If you would like your order to ship ASAP, please indicate at the time of purchase. Typical turnaround time for an ASAP shipment is 24 hours. ASAP orders placed on Friday will ship on Monday. Customers who would like their order to be shipped the same day should call 707.255.3500 to make arrangements. Same day shipments are subject to a rush fee.

Adult Signature Required

We ship all wines via Adult Signature Required service, as is required by Federal Law. Please ensure that an adult over the age of 21 will be available to receive and sign for your package. We often encourage our customers to ship to a business address to help ensure successful delivery.

International Shipping

We ship to clients throughout the world utilizing UPS World Wild International Shipping Services. Recipients are responsible for all duties and taxes which may be charged by customs when entering the receiving country. We strongly suggest that you research the local laws and applicable duties and taxes before shipping. Any orders sent back due to nonpayment of fees or lack of documentation will be subject to additional return shipping charges. All sales made to destinations outside the United States are final upon shipment. Absolutely no refunds or returns can be made once the shipment leaves our warehouse. For large international shipments, we work regularly with JF Hillebrand, Yamato Transport and Groskopf.
