The Winery

Le Clarence de Haut Brion

This is a stellar set of wines from Haut-Brion. Its as simple as that. The reds are powerful and intense, with an interplay of ripeness and freshness that is the signature… I was equally impressed with the whites… they have preserved considerable freshness.
– Antonio Galloni

Le Clarence de Haut Brion is the second label of the esteemed First Growth, Chateau Haut-Brion. Made from the grapes grown on the same vineyard as the estate’s flagship, the wines of Le Clarence prove the same attention to detail as well as expert winemaking.

The biggest difference between the winemaking for both respective wineries is the usage of oak. Le Clarence is known for maturing some of their wines in new casks, while the remainder ages in casks that have already been used for Chateau Haut-Brion the previous year. As one of the most sought-after wines in all of Bordeaux, Le Clarence was renamed in 2007 as homage to Clarence Dillon, who acquired Chateau Haut-Brion in 1935. Prior to the 2007 vintage, the second-label was known as Chateau Bahans. Today, the wines continue to offer dimensions that allow you to enjoy it sooner than the Haut-Brion while offering just as much structure and elegant opulence.
