Anne Gros, the daughter of Francois Gros, took over her family’s winery at the end of the nineteen eighties. The Gros family dates back as a winemaking family within the Cote de Nuits, more specifically Vosne-Romanee since the early eighteen hundreds. Anne Gros has quickly become one of the most sought-after wineries within Burgundy, developing as a bit of a cult winery in praise of her expertise as a winemaker. Her vineyard sites are found scattered in the beautiful limestone driven soils of the Cote de Nuits, the largest within Vosne-Romanee, following Flagey-Echezeaux, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, and Concoeur. The wine still is terroir driven with 80% new oak in the Grand Cru wines, providing structure alongside the natural finesse of her Red Burgundies.
The Anne Gros Richebourg 2003 is a distinguished red wine from the celebrated Vosne-Romanée grand cru, crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir cultivated from old vines with low yields. This vintage is notable for its production during Burgundy's historic heatwave, resulting in an early harvest and concentrated fruit flavors. With a medium to full-bodied profile, it showcases a deep color and a luxurious velvety texture. The aromatic palette features spices and ripe black fruits like blackberries and cherries, alongside cassis. This wine demonstrates a robust structure with noticeable tannins, making it both powerful and refined. The aging process involved a significant use of new oak, enhancing its complexity.
