Rombauer

Koerner Rombauer has food and wine deep in his family roots. His Great Aunt Irma is the author of the classic cookbook "Joy of Cooking." His ancestors come from the wine growing region of Rheingau, Germany. The pairing is natural. When he and his wife Joan moved their family to the Napa Valley, they started their own history. They partnered with Conn Creek Winery and learned the business, from tank washing all the way up. Joan learned marketing while working on the sales team at Stag's Leap. Then they were ready to set out on their own. They began with the classics: Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. They built their Saint Helena winery to be bigger than necessary, allowing them to do custom crushing for other winemakers. Many aspiring vintners got their start at the Rombauer property, including Duckhorn, Dominus and Merryvale.
