Domaine de Trévallon is one of the leading wineries in the highly established region of southern France: Provence. It all began in 1950 when Jacqueline and René Dürrbach fell in love with the land surrounding the estate so much that they purchased it, and by 1973 vines were planted by their son, Eloi. Today the 37 acre estate planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Marsanne and Rousanne. Initially, the wines were designated Les Baux de Provance AOC but in 1993 the INAO changed the winery’s designation to Vine de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône since the wines contained too much Cabernet Sauvignon. Today the wines are released under the IGP Alpilles, which covers west of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, and the estate has recently opened their new winery to the public as a means of their balance of modern techniques in a traditional setting.
Domaine de Trévallon 1990 is a notable red wine from Provence, crafted from a balanced 50% blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. This wine is a cult favorite that defied AOC regulations in the early '90s, opting for Vin de Pays/IGP Alpilles to maintain its unique blend. The 1990 vintage is recognized for its ripeness and longevity, showcasing complex flavors of cassis, black olive, and garrigue, along with herbal notes and a hint of tobacco. Aged in large old foudres and bottled unfiltered, it offers a supple yet structured mouthfeel, indicative of its elegant and restrained profile. Ideal for decanting to separate sediment, this wine also features label art by Éloi Dürrbach's father.
