As a collaboration between American importer Dan Philips and Australian winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis, Marquis Philips was a label known for their super affordable yet high quality wines. In 2005, both parties sued each other, and the Marquis’ left the firm to start their own wine label in McLaren Vale, the highly-praised Mollydooker. Dan Philips could not support the Australian label on his own, so in 2010 he filed for bankruptcy and slowly began to end production for the wine. Because of Marquis Philips’ tumultuous history, the affordable wines are highly sought-after and difficult to obtain in the current market.
