Beaucastel

Beaucastel is the only producer utilizing all thirteen varieties traditionally allowed in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. As the pinnacle estate in the region, sticking to traditional vinification and their philosophy that the wines should be enjoyed no sooner than 7 years after release with the variable being the vintage of course, has allowed for their success since the beginning.

There are 6 wines in the Chateau de Beaucastel portfolio; something for everyone. That is of course if your palate is one that can pick up and appreciate the subtle facet of the Brettanomyces flavor apparent in the wines with elevated Mourvedre percentages. To some a flaw; to Beaucastel and their devotees it is an asset. From the Counoise and Picpoul comes body, Grenache and Cinsault provides warmth and color, longevity and profundity are drawn from the Vaccarese, Syrah, Mouvedre and Muscardin. Vintages to look out for: 2001, 1995, 1994, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1985 and 1978.
