Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent the last forty years perfecting its production of Merlot. Being one of the few wineries in Napa Valley that chose to perfect their Merlot rather than Cabernet Sauvignon has allowed them to focus on youthful drinkability, approachability, and smooth texture. With their estate vineyards taking over more than 400 hectares, the Merlot is considered to be one of the best in the state of California.
The Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon Patzimaro Vineyards 2011 is a distinguished red wine from a single-vineyard in Howell Mountain, California. Known for its rocky, volcanic soil, this wine reflects the cool, wet conditions of the 2011 Napa vintage, resulting in an elegant and savory profile. It presents flavors of red and black currants, cherry, and bay laurel, complemented by hints of graphite, cocoa, and cedar. The wine is characterized by firm mountain tannins and bright acidity, showcasing earthy and tobacco notes as it ages. This small-production wine is aged in French oak, highlighting its complexity and connection to its rugged terroir.
