Rene Rostaing produced its first vintage in 1971, but it was not for another three decades that wine production became a full-time occupation for the domaine. Located in the the Côte-Rôtie region of the Northern Rhône, the estate is particularly known for its Syrah wines. Initially, Rostaing only covered a humble 3.7 acres that was divided between the Côte Blonde and La Landonne sub-regions. With steady growth, the domaine has over 18 acres of vineyards in Côte Rôtie currently, which is considered a substantial amount for the region. Along with its highly praised Côte Rôtie wines, Rostaing produces a La Bonnette cuvee from Condrieu and a wine made under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes appellation. The wines are adored by aficionados and critics alike and are thought to be more than good enough to warrant their current price increase.
Domaine Rostaing’s Côte-Rôtie La Viallière 2020 is a distinguished red wine from the Rhône region, showcasing the complexity of old-vine Syrah from a renowned terroir. Produced from low-yield plots with schist-rich soils, this wine is known for its elegance and structure. It features a floral and mineral nose with notes of blackberry and raspberry, complemented by herbal and spicy undertones. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with fine, integrated tannins that offer a classic structure and a cooling finish. The winemaking process involves whole-cluster fermentation and aging primarily in used barrels, emphasizing its traditional character. Ideal for aging, it promises to evolve beautifully over the years. Blend: 100% Syrah.
