Some of the most celebrated wines coming out of Côte de Nuits are under the producer Domaine Méo-Camuzet. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the label is revered because of their Grand Cru vineyards including Echézeaux, Clos de Vougeot, and Richebourg. As one of the most esteemed producers in the region, what makes Domaine Méo-Camuzet unique is that they produce six different bottlings, a rarity since the plots are divided amongst numerous different owners.
Founded in 1902 by a well-known Parisian politician turned vigneron, Étienne Camuzet represented the Côte d’Or in the city while keeping his land in use with the help of sharecroppers. By 1986, the domaine had been passed down to Jean-Nicholas Méo who had realized that because of the extensive sharecropping, the domaine only had control on a very small portion of the wines. After ongoing strategic planning, he was able to regain the original plots from the sharecroppers as well as additional land, including part of the Cros Parantoux Premier Cru site that was made famous by iconic Burgundy producer Henri Jayer. Today, most of the farming is done organically on the 35 acres, and most of the fruit is estate grown.
