The father and son duo, Giacomo and Giovanni Conterno, are known by many in Piedmont as the masters of Barolo for producing legendary Monfortino wines. Following the end of World War I, Giacomo sought out to make Barolo with great aging potential, which came to be known as one of the firsts to be made in the ‘classic’ Barolo style.
The tradition continues today as Roberto Conterno, Giovanni’s son, produces some of the best Piedmont wines each year according to many wine critics. Monfortino wines have stood the test of time, and have won over Barolo lovers from all over the world.

Giacomo Conterno's Barolo Cascina Francia 2018 hails from the esteemed Francia vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, established in 1974. This wine, crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, showcases the region's calcareous marl terroir and is marked by a traditional winemaking approach, including native fermentation and extended aging in large Slavonian oak barrels for approximately 48 months. The 2018 vintage is distinguished by its powerful character, with aromas of truffle, leather, and ripe stone fruits like plum and cherry complemented by earthy undertones and hints of spice. The palate reveals a robust structure with firm tannins, leading to a long, complex finish. This vintage also serves as a remarkable blend, as the Monfortino was not produced this year.
