Langoa Barton of St. Julien was purchased by Hugh Barton in 1821, which was about thirty years before the historic 1855 classification of Bordeaux. In that ranking, Napoleon placed Langoa Barton as a Troisièmes Crus (Third Growths), well above the expectation at the time. Since then, the Château has maintained its family-run operation through its 8th and 9th generation with Anthony Barton and his daughter Lillian taking the reins. In fact, Langoa Barton is the longest family-ran estate in all the crus of the Left Bank.
The wines are made in a traditional style aged typically in 50% new, French oak for approximately 20 months. They also make a second wine, Lady Langoa.
