Since 1834 the Tempier family had been at the forefront of establishing Bandol as its own Appellation d’Origin, and by 1941 proprietor Lucien Peyraud’s dream was finally actualized. Years later and now considered the Godfather of Bandol, Lucien and his work at Domaine Tempier helped re-develop both the post-phylloxera Bandol region and Mourvedre grape back to its original glory. The Peyraud family still plays a significant role in the viticultural and winemaking processes for wines that are true to this extremely historic region.
Tempier Bandol Cuvée Spéciale Cabassaou 2005 is a distinguished red wine from the esteemed Domaine Tempier in Provence, known for its pioneering role in Bandol wines. This unique cuvée is crafted primarily from old-vine Mourvèdre, with a small percentage of Syrah and Cinsault, and is aged for 18-20 months in large foudres. The wine exhibits a complex aroma profile with notes of leather and forest floor, complemented by the rich flavors of blackberry and cranberry on the palate. Its full-bodied and intense character is balanced by a smooth texture and good acidity, ensuring a harmonious and lengthy finish. The 2005 vintage is notable for its aging potential, reflecting the estate's commitment to quality.
