The Winery

Didier Dagueneau

Known as the “wild man of Pouilly” thanks to his long hair and dramatic beard, Didier Dagueneau was just as recognized for his brilliant ideas as he was the wines that he produced in the Loire Valley of France. Many recognized him as the best producer and the redeemer for the Pouilly Fume appellation when he began his domaine in 1982. His biodynamic approach to winemaking revolutionized the way his neighbors were making wine. After criticizing the practices of surrounding wineries, Didier began focusing on producing the utmost quality in his wines. He reduced his yields by tilling his land with horses, and began utilizing oak barrels to maximize lees contact so much that Didier’s wines became classic examples of the region.

Unfortunately, the iconic winemaker passed away in an aircraft accident at the age of 52 in 2008. His son and daughter, Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte now operate the estate and it is Louis-Benjamin’s name that has appeared on labels since the bittersweet 2008 vintage.
