"Michel Chapoutier's enthusiasm and commitment to exceptional, naturally made wines is a winemaking triumph, as well as a clear victory for all who care about the quality of wine."
-Robert Parker
While the estate was born in the early 19th century, the real story of the wines we see today began when Marius Chapoutier took the winemaking into his own hands; dissatisfied with what his neighbors were producing and with the faith he could do better.
In 1990, Michel Chapoutier quickly established his family’s estate, taking it to the top at the young age of 26. Old world coupled with biodynamics and a legacy of experience, gifts us with remarkable, unflitered wines we can enjoy now or lay down for at least a decade. Just in 2003, 88 of the wines were awarded 90+ points by highly acclaimed critics. Vintages to look out for: 1990, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001.
Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc Le Meal 2003 is a distinguished white wine from the Northern Rhône, produced from old-vine Marsanne in a biodynamic vineyard. The wine showcases a rich, full-bodied character with a concentrated essence of honey complemented by notes of almond, tropical fruits like mango and papaya, and a hint of spice. Its texture resembles that of coconut milk, while the powerful finish reveals significant minerality. Aged in oak, it possesses a complex flavor profile with a warming finish, indicative of the warm 2003 vintage. With only 300 cases produced, this wine reflects both craftsmanship and the unique terroir of Hermitage. (100% Marsanne, 13.5% alcohol)
