Classified as a second growth from Margaux in the Bordeaux region of France, Château Rauzan-Ségla is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant producer. Due to its rich and concentrated style, the wine has catapulted as one of the best second growths in production. Manager of Château Margaux and Château Latour, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, founded what was previously Domaine de Rauzan in September 1661. Passed through several generations, the chateau ends up in the hands of the Baroness of Ségla in 1816, which causes the name change of the winery. With a continuation of change in ownership, the winery does not change much until 1994 when Chanel, Inc. purchases the nearly 130 acre estate and rebuilds and reconstructs the vineyards and chateau. Since then machine harvesting has been eliminated and overall quality has been improved in harvesting as well as winemaking techniques. The Rauzan-Segla team is now compromised of individuals focused on the best presentation and quality of wines made for consumers who will enjoy a piece of history.
